                                    3. Make  a file and put the answers in it

ASSIGNMENT NO.-1                  issue date          1.2.2013                 due date              8.2.2013                                RETURN DATE

Q.No.-1             What is power Transmission? Write the devices and sketch them with their types. Write the factors for choosing the appropriate drive.

Q.No.-2             What is a gear train and train value? Derive the velocity ratio of each train.

ASSIGNMENT NO.-2                  issue date          8.2.2013                                due date              15.2.2013              RETURN DATE

Q.No.-1             An open belt connects two flat pulleys. The smaller pulley is 600 mm in diameter and turns 200 rpm. The angle of lap on the pulley is 160 degree and coefficient of friction between belt and pulley face is 0.25. If maximum permissible tension is 2500 N, calculate the power transmitted.

Q.No.-2             A spur gear having 60 teeth is mounted on a shaft of an electric motor running at 1200 rpm. A  parallel counter shaft is required to run in the opposite direction by a simple gear train in mesh. If the speed reduction is 4 and circular pitch of gears is 30 mm, calculate the number of teeth and speed in the counter shaft. Also calculate the centre distance between the gears.

ASSIGNMENT NO.-3                  issue date        18.2.2013 due date      22.2.2013(partly)     RETURN DATE

Q.No.-1             Calculate Modulus of elasticity, Yield stress, Ultimate stress and % elongation and contraction from the following data of a specimen test:
Specimen dia 20 mm, length 50 mm, elongation 0.05 mm, proportion limit load 100 kN, Yield load 115 kN, Ultimate load 200 kN. After rupture length 6.67 cm and dia 1.72 cm..

Q.No.-2             a)   Give some day- to- day examples on laws of thermodynamics, stress & strain

b) Manometer measures the pressure of a tank as 250 cm of mercury, density of Hg is      13.6x10³ kg/ m³. Atmosphere pressure is 101 kPa.Calculate tank press in MPa.

c) Considered a gas enclosed in piston-cylinder arrangement. The gas initially at a pressure of 150 k Pa and occupies volume of of 0.03 m³. Gas heated until the volume increased to 0.01 m³. Calculate WD, if volume of gas is inversely proportional to pressure.

ASSIGNMENT NO.-4                  issue date                                          due date                                              RETURN DATE

Q.No.-1             A Pelton wheel is required to develop 6 Mw, while working under head of 300 m. It rotates with a speed of 550 rpm. Assuming jet ratio is 10and overall efficiency 85% calculate i) dia of pelton wheel ii) quantity of water i.e. flow iii) number of jets. Assume suitable VR and velocity coefficient.

Q.No.-2             a) Make sketch of Lathe, Milling & Shaper machine tools and name the main parts.

b) What is rating of refrigeration?
i) The capacity of the system is 12 tons what is cooling rate of machine?
ii) 250 litres of drinking water is required per hour at 10ºC. Would the use of 1.5 ton refrigerating system be justified, if water is available at 30ºC.
iii) A refrigerating machine takes1.25 kw and produces 25 kg/ hr of ice at 0ºC from water at 30ºC. Determine refrigerating effect, tonnage and COP. Sp heat of water is =4.18 kJ/ kg K, Enthalpy of solidification of water from and at 0ºC=335 kJ/ kg.

c) Download the questions from my blog and answer from my notes posted on blog.
